How do I gauge product-market fit (PMF) this early?

Look for leading indicators that customers love the product and would be hurt if it disappeared. At pre‑seed, you won’t have perfect metrics, so triangulate:

Evidence of pain: unsolicited inbound, pilots converting to paid, fast sales cycles.

Engagement/retention: cohort usage that improves over time; low churn for early design partners.

Speed of iteration: short feedback loops; responsive roadmap; tighter pitch over time.

Buyer urgency: budget exists, or a workflow breaks without the product.


Ask for 3–5 customer references (or design partners) and talk about alternatives and switching costs. If nothing breaks when the product pauses, PMF likely isn’t there yet.
